Bridging traditions with tomorrow, serving with purpose, and celebrating the vibrant Odia culture in the heart of Michigan
MI-OSA is a chapter operating under the umbrella of The Odisha Society of the Americas (OSA). This is a socio-cultural organization with the objective of building a vibrant, cohesive and united community of Odiyas living in the state of Michigan, USA.
Create a cultural sanctuary where Michigan's Odia families reconnect with their roots through authentic celebrations of festivals like Kumar Purnima, Ganesh Puja, and Saraswati Pooja
Foster community connections across Michigan's communities, bringing together families for meaningful cultural exchange
Educate the next generation through youth programs that balance Odia cultural identity with Michigan values, preparing our children to succeed in both worlds
Bridge communities by sharing Odia culture with Michigan's diverse population through public festivals, temple events, and university partnerships
Support our members with a network of mutual assistance, from helping new arrivals navigate Michigan life to celebrating life's milestones together
Promote and enhance cultural awareness by organizing various events throughout the year and providing a platform for our kids to connect with our roots. By celebrating different events, our kids and adults get a chance to perform and appreciate our food, culture, and the brotherhood.
Provide a strong organizational foundation and foster camaraderie to support our community members in building lasting connections and mutual support.
The principles that guide our actions and shape our community
Preserving and promoting the rich heritage, traditions, and values of Odia culture for current and future generations.
We welcome all interested in Odia culture regardless of age, citizenship, religion, or background. Our doors are open to both Odia families and Michigan neighbors curious about our heritage.
Fostering educational excellence and promoting Odia language, literature, and arts among youth and adults.
We maintain traditional festival celebrations while adapting to Michigan's seasons and lifestyle, hosting summer picnics alongside Kumar Utsav, indoor Vasant Utsav celebrations during Michigan winters.
Every member has a voice in shaping our chapter's future through voting rights and leadership opportunities, reflecting both OSA's governance model and Michigan's democratic values.
Through our Kalyan Jyoti programs, we partner with Michigan organizations to express our cultural value of seva (service), contributing to the broader community that welcomes us.
Our primary goals and initiatives that drive our community forward
Organize authentic celebrations of major Odia festivals including Ganesh Puja, Kumar Purnima, Saraswati Puja, Vasant Utsav, and our community Summer Picnic.
